When Technology Meets Tradition: How Smart Lighting Transformed the Home House Private Members’ Club

In the world of heritage buildings, innovation often walks a fine line. How do you modernise a space steeped in history without disturbing its timeless beauty?

That was the challenge at Home House, one of London’s oldest and most prestigious private members’ clubs. The goal: bring 21st-century lighting control into a Grade I listed building, without a single cable out of place.

Lighting Elegance, Reimagined

Inside Home House, chandeliers now dim effortlessly to set the perfect tone for any occasion. Bespoke joinery and decorative details glow with warmth and sophistication, revealing the craftsmanship that defines the club’s iconic interiors. Even antique table lamps respond to wireless control, an elegant fusion of old and new that breathes new life into historic rooms.

Every lighting scene was carefully fine-tuned to match the rhythm of the day, from bright, welcoming light over breakfast to soft, intimate ambience by evening. And remarkably, it was all achieved without disturbing a single piece of the building’s original structure.

Smart Thinking for Historic Spaces

“This project is a perfect example of what’s possible when technology meets tradition,” said Jamie Weakner, Director at Minlec. “It proves that smart lighting isn’t just for modern builds, it can enhance even the most historic spaces, invisibly and sustainably.”

Working with Lighting Designer Victoria Jerram, Interior Designer Russell Sage, and Chandelier specialists Madson Black and Minlec, Minlec delivered a Casambi-based wireless lighting system that respects the heritage fabric while providing seamless, energy-efficient control.

By utilising Casambi’s flexible wireless technology, the team was able to connect and control lighting throughout the building, despite solid masonry walls and original MICC wiring, ensuring optimal performance without compromise.

Award Recognition

The project’s success hasn’t gone unnoticed. Home House has been shortlisted for the 2025 Casambi Project of the Year Award, which recognises outstanding global achievements in smart lighting control, technical excellence, and design innovation.

For Minlec, it’s not just about modernising, it’s about showing what’s possible when technology and heritage coexist beautifully. Home House stands as proof that smart control

can elevate heritage architecture, blending 18th-century grandeur with 21st-century intelligence.

If you’re planning a refurbishment or looking to future-proof your space with scalable, intelligent lighting solutions, Minlec can help you make it happen.
